New Years 2026, and No Resolutions!

"God touching the paw of Dog" Fresco painted over by Michelangelo, recently restored.

I’m a day late and a dollar short, but:  Happy New Year!

Better late than never.

I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions.  Resolutions seem to require a big change, a promise to yourself to do or not do something.  They’re too hard to keep.

Just be comfortable in your own skin, and instead:

Live like a dog.

Yep, you heard that right.  If you observe a dog, he/she is content in the moment.  Dogs don’t worry about an uncertain future or fret about a regrettable past.  They’re just happy in the present, savoring life as it comes.  That's why God created Dog in His divine image (so it goes in doglore) and the reason "God" spelled backwards is "Dog" (again, per the scripture of dogdom)

So here’s The Dao of Dog:

Live each day as if it’s a full life-cycle.  Savor the moment, the here-and-now.  Let life happen for you and take it as it comes.  But I get it, as humans, we can’t completely ignore past events or avoid contemplating the future.  It’s both the blessing and bane of our species.  See it for what it is, and don’t dwell too much on an unchangeable past or an unpredictable future.  And so, at the close of each day, go ahead and reflect upon all the successes of the day, large or small, learn from mistakes or negative circumstances, and plan on how you can improve the following day.  Then turn the page and start anew.

And observe a dog.  You might find one staring at you this moment, tongue sticking out and tail wagging in indescribable bliss.

Humans are not all that dumb however; there are lots who imparted great wisdom upon us.  I’ve collected hundreds of quotations over the years.  My favorites haven’t changed, which I posted on New Years 2024

Happy 2026 and have a dog of a great day (and year).
