Presidents’ Day. Brings to mind dead presidents. This leads me to thinking about…money.
Which
then reminds me that most residents--the majority of docs in-training--still
know little to nothing about money matters and business. To help alleviate this knowledge void, I’ve provided
an entertaining read called:
The
M.D. (Monetary Dummies) Guidebook to Business
OK, it’s not the official title, but you
get my drift. This evolved from the
didacts I’ve given to med students residents about business basics. My lecture handouts kept expanding until it
morphed into 100+ pages, which was compiled into this book.
This book was meant for any healthcare
professional interested in the basics of business. I’ve written it from the perspective of my business
acumen upon completing my residency and entering practice, and that was…nothing. So it’s all there, in plain language,
assuming the reader is wholly ignorant about the world of money, business, accounting,
economics, finance, investing, and so on…
I learned about business in a circuitous
manner, through independent study and years upon years of trial-and-error while
in private practice. I learned it the
hard way, from the hard knocks of professional life.
Back in med school and residency, we had
no formal business training. There was
talk of adding business topics to the curriculum in the future. For the majority of M.D. and D.O. programs, hasn’t happened. Nowadays, whenever I ask residents about their
business knowledge, invariably they respond, “Not much” or “nothing”.
This book I provide for free, as a service to doctors and healthcare providers future and present. Our lives are inundated saving folks from death and disease.
...to here
Having a bit of knowledge about money and how it can work for us allows us to continue with this worthy calling.
“A
penny earned is a penny saved. That’s why
my face is on the 100-dollar bill!”
